Using the TGGE System of Biometra biomolecules can be separated according to migration behavior in a temperature gradient. This technique enables e.g. differentiation of DNA fragments with identical length but different sequence.

Unlike chemical or temporal temperature gradients the separation parameters can be controlled with high precision in the Biometra TGGE System. Thus, reproducible experimental conditions ensure reliable results.

TGGE System: rapid optimization and analysis
The TGGE System was designed for optimum resolution in a small gel. The highly integrated system consists of a controller and a gradient electro-phoresis unit. Both optimization of temperature range and parallel analysis of samples can be achieved in a very short time. Thus, new protocols can be rapidly established and a high serial throughput can be achieved.
Unique Sensitivity
Sequencing of heterozygous samples after PCR amplification often leads to ambiguous results. Using the Biometra TGGE System it is possible to separate DNA fragment mixtures which differ in only one single position. Even mutations present on a single allele can be clearly detected.



  Economical
In pre-screening of patient samples by molecular diagnostics the TGGE system offers a rapid and cost-effective method. Specific samples can be easily selected for sequencing. Based on the electrophoretic band pattern a differentiation between known and unknown mutations is often possible.
Accurate
The heart of both TGGE systems is the Peltier temperature gradient block. The microprocessor control and regulation of the temperature gradient guarantees for highest reproducibility. Using this technology it is possible to perform any number of analysis under identical conditions. Thus, the TGGE system from Biometra is superior to systems based on chemical or temporal gradients.
  Wide Range of Applications
Currently the main fields of application are screening for mutations and analysis of microbial populations. However, the electrophoretic separation of complex biomolecules in a temperature gradient enables a broad range of applications e.g. in protein biochemistry.
